The Ship Beyond Time

THE SHIP BEYOND TIME description and summary.

THE SHIP BEYOND TIME is the second book in The Girl From Everywhere Series.  See my review of the first book, THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE

I check out this book from the Barry Lawrence Regional Library so I could read and review.

I was so excited when I got the email telling me this book was ready to download and read.  I jumped right on it.  I really liked the first book, so I was hoping the second book was as good or better. THE SHIP BEYOND TIME did not disappoint me.

You will need to read the first book to totally understand the second.  There are plenty of references to THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE. The book starts where the first book ends. I am so glad it is a continuous tale because I really do not like books where there is a big time gap between the first story and the second.

Familiar characters will greet the reader: Nix, Slate, Bee, Rotgut, Kash, Blake. All are still very easy to love and hate at the same time. My feelings about several of the characters see-sawed throughout the book. During the course of the story, you meet several new and intriguing characters. One new character, Crowhurst, is my favorite.  I love characters that walk a fine line between genius and madman.

Nixie is still the main narrator of the story. Her storytelling style is still the same as the first book. She makes a great narrator because she is very observant and descriptive. In THE SHIP BEYOND TIME, Nixie’s life is not so desirable. The reality of her Navigation gift makes her rethink her values and priorities. Kashmir also narrates.  He provides a different perspective and new light into what is happening in the story. Their romance continues to play a big role in the story and the decisions they both make. Not a spoiler, but there is more kissing….
“Nix,” I said, and her name was a poem. She tilted her face up to the http://www.yainterrobang.com/dawn; my lips met hers. She pressed close to me, and then there was no past, no future—only now. No her, no me. Only us.”

Navigation is still very important to the plot. As a reader, I had a better grasp on how the time travel worked, so I better understood what was happening in the book. I love all the old maps.  I wish the book was illustrated so I could actually see the maps Nix was seeing. The main question in this book is can you change the future by changing the past.
“Every choice has a cost, Miss Song. The real question is whether or not one is willing to pay it.”
“No, Blake. The real question is whether it’s worth the price.”

There are several new plot twists that keep the book exciting.  Several of the twists caught me totally off guard. I also loved the action in this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat constantly guessing. This book has sea creatures, which are my favorite mythological creatures.

Once again, my favorite thing about this book is the “mythological” aspect to the story. I love how the myths are woven and shaped into the story. I have learned so much from Nixie and her vast knowledge of myths and history. The myths in THE SHIP BEYOND TIME are myths that have moral issues. You will be thinking about and examining your choices compared to Nixie’s.

I really am glad I read this book.  It provides some closure for the first book, but it also leaves me with a million more questions.  There has to be a THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE #3.  I have searched and searched but I can’t find any mention of a third. I see THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE AND THE SHIP BEYOND TIME becoming very popular movies.  There are so many possibilities!
